Puritan America associates porn, with its guarantees of release and guilty pleasure, with not trying too hard. And the porn world takes seriously these low expectations, routinely misspelling the names of its stars on its own boxcovers. To say that director Joe Gallant is a smart guy, then, is to add an unstable element to a chemical that was doing just fine, thanks.
Gallant is releasing his Skin Trade in September through Bad Seed, a tiny little division of Adam & Eve. I watched a screener copy and didn’t once send my college degree back. And it’s not just because Lexi Bardot wear glasses that I felt this way.
I contacted Gallant.
“You think you’re smart?” I said, shoving him and knocking askew his glasses. “Say something smart.”
“Since the procedure,” he said, “I’ve slept only 40 minutes a night, so I am available for consultation at a moment’s notice. I quite like Dr. Kruse. She’s been thorough.”
“Talk in URLs to me,” I groused. “You think you’re better than your old man?”
