288442-763810.jpgI really liked Naughty America’s DVD compilation Naughty Flipside Vol. I.

I watch a lot of porn and I know a lot of porn stars. Because of the latter, I often don’t enjoy the former. For me, the people who perform in porn movies for a living are routinely more interesting and fun in person than they ever appear on screen. I know that the sex they’re having on camera is contrived, as is the persona they convey. In person they seem like fun people you’d like to have sex with as part of a balanced diet that would include playing air hockey and drinking tequila shots with them.

Why Naughty Flipside is so effective is that everyone involved strove to make each scene fun and memorable by erring on the side of silly. Sasha Grey, whom I don’t think is actually a mopey teen, plays a mopey teen to the hilt in her scene. Pinky Lee tap dances in a tutu. Adrianna Nicole and Lorelei Lee can’t keep straight faces in their scene with Tommy Pistol. Dana DeArmond uses her feet on her boyfriend, Daniel. It’s wonderful.

I know that porn is deadly serious in that it represents our freedoms of speech and expression, dressed up with a shaved vagina. But for me porn’s biggest turn-on is when its performers seem accessible, and when they appear to be most like the people I know.
